Everton have been linked with a summer move for Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy according to a report in The Mirror.
The UK newspaper revealed that the club’s director of football Steve Walsh outlined the Toffees recruitment drive for the summer during a meeting and that the Foxes forward was their number one target.
But supporters of the Goodison Park outfit were unhappy with the rumours and felt that a move for the attacker would not pay-off.
Fans pointed to the player’s age as the reason why any transfer should be avoided while others questioned how the 31-year-old would even fit into the way that the team plays – commenting on their lack of ambition going forward.
Considering that Vardy continued to perform at a consistent level since his rise to stardom from Fleetwood Town, the reaction that the potential transfer had was a surprising one.
The Foxes forward was irresistible throughout the Midlands club title-winning season, spearheading the attack and notching up 28 goals in the process and has reproduced that in the seasons following.
Pace, ability to finish, the forward seems to have it all – apart from time on his side as he approaches the twilight of his career – but that hasn’t stopped him from netting 15 times so far in all competitions.
Everton have been crying out for an all-out goalscorer in what has been a dismal campaign for the club but seemingly Vardy is not the answer.
Here is a selection of supporter reactions on social media to the latest transfer rumour:

Steve Walsh should be out of a job by now. Total fraud.
Here we are…another high-profile player from the most expensive league in the world with no resale value who will probably cost £35m+ and £130k a week in wages.
