Everton fans react on Twitter to Barkley display after Chelsea defeat

By Dominic Toner

Everton midfielder Ross Barkley was unable to prevent his side slip to a defeat against Chelsea on Sunday – and the club’s supporters were highly critical of his performance on Twitter.

The Toffees suffered just their second home loss in the league this season and now look set for a seventh-placed finish, which does help them return to European football.

The Merseyside club were blown away in the second-half by a Chelsea side that moved a step closer to the league title.

Pedro broke the deadlock in the 66th minute with a superb long-range strike, before Gary Cahill and Willian ensured the points for Antonio Conte’s side.

Everton fans were bitterly disappointed with their team’s defeat and picked out Barkley for his struggling display.

Barkley was asked to do a more disciplined role at the weekend as Morgan Schneiderlin was absent through injury.

The England international played in the centre of the park and found it difficult to impose his game against Chelsea’s powerful midfield.

He has thrived in a more advanced position for the majority of the campaign and linked up well with teammate Romelu Lukaku.

Barkley has made 36 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring five goals and supplying nine assists.
