Everton are reportedly closing in on a sensational £21million deal for Juan Mata - and supporters have taken to Twitter to reveal their delight.

Journalist Flora Moussy, who works for French outlet InfoSport+, claimed on her personal Twitter account on Sunday that Mata is in advanced talks to join the Merseysiders from Manchester United.

She said the deal is imminent for the Spain international to move to Goodison Park.

Moussy's translated tweet read: "Juan Mata is expected soon to leave Manchester United and sign with Everton. The transfer around 25 million euros #MUFC".

Mata, 28, is not in the plans of manager Jose Mourinho, who sold him to United in January 2014 during his second spell at Chelsea.

It would be regarded as a sensational coup for Everton if they could sign a United regular, one who cost £37million in January 2014.

Here are a selection of the messages from supporters on Twitter:

The 28-year-old was in sparkling form for United last season, scoring 10 goals and making 11 in a defence minded side, but was left out of Spain's Euro 2016 squad by boss Vicente Del Bosque.
