Everton fans react on Twitter to reported £22m Depay agreement
By Alex Stevens
Memphis Depay is on the verge of joining Lyon from Manchester United – and Everton fans are happy to have missed out on the forward.
The Merseysiders have been strongly linked with signing the Holland international and manager Ronald Koeman admitted interest in landing his countryman before the Liverpool Echo reported they had pulled out of the running this week.
But Everton appear to have been beaten to the punch by Lyon after reports emerged on Wednesday that they have reached an agreement with Manchester United to sign Depay.
BBC Sport claim on their website that the Ligue 1 club have agreed to pay a fee of £16million rising to £21.7million including add-ons for the 22-year-old.
Everton supporters are not too concerned to have lost out on the winger, with many claiming the club were right to pursue a loan deal rather than a permanent one.

Memphis Depay deal was only ever going to be a ‘try-before-you-buy’, which is sensible.
Utd wanted a sale.Dodged a bullet, there.#EFC

One must also question Koeman’s wisdom of deeming Bolaise worth a £30m punt but not offering even half for Depay. #efc

Depay had a fine record at his previous club PSV Eindhoven but has been a major disappointment at United and has made little impact over the last 18 months.
He has made just eight appearances since Jose Mourinho took over as manager last summer and has featured for just eight minutes in all competitions since October.
In other Everton transfer news, Koeman is getting serious about pushing through this £47million signing in the coming days.
