Everton fans would love Potter after manager hunt twist - Whelan

Brighton’s Graham Potter is one of the best British managers around and would be a top appointment for Everton.

That is according to ex-Premier League forward Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest developments in Everton’s manager hunt.

The Athletic reported on 8th June that Toffees bigwigs are fans of the Brighton boss as well the likes of Rafael Benitez and Roberto Martinez.

But, as revealed by Football Insider on 12th June, Everton could in fact soon appoint Nuno Espirito Santo after his talks with Crystal Palace collapsed.

Whelan is a big fan of Potter and claims he would be a popular option should the deal to bring Nuno to Goodison fall through.

“I think everyone’s got admiration for Graham Potter and what he’s done,” he told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.

“With his intelligence in the game, he’s liked by a lot of managers. It’s not the first time his name has cropped up in terms of taking that next step up.

“When you look around the country and try and pinpoint very good British managers, he’s right up there with Brendan Rodgers.

“He’s a top football man and Everton fans will be excited with the way he likes to play the game.

“He’s got riches to choose from with the squad players that are there and he will have money to spend as well.

“It will be interesting to see how he goes on at Everton. He does seem like a very good man to work for and his man-management skills would go down well with the players.”

Potter’s Brighton side finished 16th in the Premier League in 2020-21.

He is under contract at the Amex until 2025.
