Everton handed boost in pursuit of 16-goal forward - report

By Harvey Byrne

Everton have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, according to a report.

The Telegraph have reported on their website that Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dotmund’s claim that star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will not be sold this summer has had an impact on the Toffees’ chase of the 30-year-old.

It was said that Giroud himself had hoped to replace the Gabon ace at Dortmund after being pushed down the Gunners’ pecking order by summer recruit Alexandre Lacazette.

However, it is now a doubt whether the German club will make a bid for Giroud following their declaration over the future of Aubameyang.

Arsenal are reported to want around £20million for the Frenchman and it is said by the Telegraph that Everton believe they are second to Dortmund in the list of the forward’s preferred destinations.

Giroud completed a move to England in 2012 for £9.6million from French club Montpellier and he has since scored 98 times in 227 appearances in total for the Gunners, including 16 goals in 40 matches in all competitions last season.

Football Insider verdict:

Giroud has shown that he has what it takes to score on a consistent basis in the Premier League and he would certainly add a touch of class to the current Toffees team. The Merseysiders have lost Romelu Lukaku this summer, but they have also added Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney to their forward ranks. Neither are too well known for their aerial prowess and that is something that Giroud would certainly add to Ronald Koeman’s side and this boost could have a huge say on Everton’s season.
