Everton in pole position to sign 'absolute superstar' Isco after 'unbelievable' update - Kenny

Rafael Benitez may give Everton the edge in the race to sign “absolute superstar” Isco from Real Madrid.

So says ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 29-year-old Spanish playmaker.

Four-time Champions League winner Isco is out of contract next summer and has started just twice for Los Blancos this season.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reported on 4 October that Everton is the most likely destination for the in-demand Isco.

He and Benitez worked together during Benitez’ six months as boss at the Bernabeu between 2015 and 201`6.

And Kenny suggests that their pre-existing relationship gives the Toffees an advantage in the hunt for his signature.

“I think if this one comes off, it would be an unbelievable deal,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“You don’t play all those games for Real Madrid over the last ten years without being an absolute superstar.

“He is a talented player, someone I’ve always looked up to as a fantastic midfielder. What a player.

“If there is an opportunity to sign him, he’s someone the fans would like to see play for them.

“Benitez managed him when he was at Real Madrid too, which could give them a bit of an edge.

Any deal for Isco would need to be done on the cheap due to the club’s financial fair play constraints.

This site revealed earlier today (11 October) that the Toffees will concentrate on free agents and loan signings this January.
