Everton are in pole position to win the elite-club race to sign Michael Keane this summer, according to a report.
Sports site Bleacher Report claim that Goodison Park is the “most likely destination” for the Burnley centre-back in the forthcoming window.
It is said that Everton is considered a really good fit because it is an ambitious club where he would have a really good chance of regular first-team football.
Bleacher Report state that Keane also regards a transfer to Tottenham as tempting but is veering towards the Merseysiders.
The cash-rich club, whose ambitions have been intensified following the backing of majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, have director of football Steve Walsh among Keane’s admirers.
The claim about Everton leading the race comes days after the Sun reported Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is expected to see off competition to land the signature of the Burnley centre-back for a fee of £30million.
The 24-year-old has had an outstanding campaign as a mainstay of a Burnley side that are well placed to avoid relegation.
Football Insider verdict:
Keane should forget Everton and hold out for a move to Liverpool instead. It would offer him the greater opportunity to win trophies and also give him the regular football he craves. Keane would leapfrog the brittle Dejan Lovren in the pecking order and be a far more solid partner for Joel Matip, currently the outstanding centre-back at Anfield. Keane is in a strong position. He is in the form of his life, the big clubs want him and Burnley will have to sell him this summer or risk losing him for nothing in 12 months.
