Everton face going into the new season unprepared with a lack of players which could derail their debut campaign at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Following David Moyes' arrival in January for a second spell at the club, the Scot managed to pull Everton clear of the relegation zone and to a safe mid-table position.

The emotional farewell of former stadium Goodison Park was a landmark moment in the club's history and there move to a brand new stadium of Bramley Moore Dock was supposed to herald a new era.

However, transfer plans have not succeeded and Moyes has only 20 senior players at his disposal, which includes a lack of wingers, midfield, and defensive options.

Moyes agrees deal amid squad issues

According to BBC Sport, Moyes has said Everton are "running out of time" in the window to make an impact to their squad ahead of the new campaign starting in just over two weeks time.

Deals the club wanted to complete did not come about and Moyes now says he needs six new players added to his squad.

Moyes has signed Bayern Munich left-back Adam Aznou, but that the 19-year-old may not go straight into the first team squad.

Relegation battle could loom again

Everton's first home match against Brighton will be a joyous occasion regardless, but there may be slight concerns from supporters over what the new season could hold.

An injury crisis at present would hit the squad hard and would leave Moyes with having to call up players from the academy.

New striker Thierno Barry arrives with great potential, but the 22-year-old will have a lot of pressure put on his shoulders straight away should Beto leave with Leeds linked with a move.

Moyes will need to use all his experience to ensure Everton do not get involved in another relegation fight, and there match at Leeds on the opening day will be an interesting early marker for both sides.
