Exclusive: Brands makes contact as Everton work on £20m double deal
EXCLUSIVE
Marcel Brands has begun work on a stunning Everton £20million double bid for Swansea City pair Daniel James and Matt Grimes, Football Insider understands.
The Goodison recruitment chief has identified the Championship duo as players of immense potential capable of making an impact in the Premier League.
An Everton source has told Football Insider that director of football Brands has already make contact with the representatives of winger James and central midfielder Grimes about their interest in heading to Merseyside this summer.
The Premier League big spenders are ready to spend £20million for the rising stars and take advantage of Swansea’s financial crisis following their relegation from the top flight 12 months ago.
James, 21, has become one of the Championship’s most in-demand players since a loan-to-buy move to Leeds United broke down on transfer deadline day in January after he had passed a medical and agreed terms.
He is out of contract in the summer of 2020 and Everton believe his value is around the £10million mark.
Ex-England Under-21 international Grimes was recently named the Swansea Player of the Season following an outstanding campaign in which he was a virtual ever-present, making 47 appearances in all competitions.
He has a contract until the summer of 2022 and Everton recognise it might take another £10million to prise him from the Liberty Stadium.
