Everton news: Frank Lampard may have fallen out with Nathan Patterson after confirmed news - Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Frank Lampard has had a behind-the-scenes falling out with Nathan Patterson at Everton.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed it was “very strange” the 20-year-old is yet to make his Premier League debut.

Lampard moved to a back five in the 1-0 defeat to Wolves at the weekend but there was not even a place on the bench for Patterson.

The £16million January signing’s only game time for his new club came in the 2-0 win over Boreham Wood in the FA Cup earlier this month but he was taken off at half-time.

That has not put off Scotland manager Steve Clarke who named the right-back in his squad for their upcoming internationals yesterday (16 March).

As quoted by the Glasgow Times, Clarke admitted he sympathised with the difficulties of throwing a young player into a relegation battle.

Asked for his verdict on Everton’s recent struggles, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think there are three worst teams than Everton.

“Sooner or later, I’m sure either Calvert-Lewin or Richarlison will start scoring. They’ve got enough.

“I feel it’s out of Watford, Norwich, Burnley and Leeds, to be honest. I think everyone else will be safe.

“The five at the back could be the way to go. If you’re leaking goals and confidence is low then a lot of managers do go to the five at the back to sure it up, definitely.

“Frank Lampard will think ‘I’ve got some big games coming up, let’s keep clean sheets. We’ve got the players to score goals, so clean sheets will win us games’.

“Something’s happened with Patterson though. A new signing and normally all players get a new chance with the new manager.

“Maybe something happened there with Lampard and he’s decided not to have him involved.

“It’s a strange one, there must be something that we don’t know. He’s a good player and Coleman has not been the same player recently. Lampard must have his reasons.”
