Everton news: Pundit issues 'big' Anthony Gordon claim after transfer update

Alan Hutton has backed Everton to hold on to Anthony Gordon despite interest from Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and Aston Villa right-back suggested Gordon is an integral part of the team Frank Lampard is trying to build.

In the summer (23 August), this site revealed that the Lilywhites were readying a last-gasp bid for the 21-year-old after holding preliminary talks with the Toffees but Gordon remained at Goodison Park.

According to the Sun (5 November), Spurs are now weighing up a January move for the winger.

Antonio Conte is said to be considering testing Everton’s resolve and has already made early enquiries.

But Hutton insisted Lampard will want to hold on to Gordon.

I think they would rather keep him,” he told Football Insider.

I think Frank Lampard is trying to build something. You can see the backbone now of what he wants and the team that he is trying to produce for the games and Gordon is probably a big part of that.

To let him go mid-way through the season is not ideal. They are obviously looking for that type of player, that attacking threat with pace.

So it does not surprise me that Tottenham are still interested but I would not have thought Everton will want to let him leave.

Gordon has made 13 appearances for Everton so far this season.

In those outings he has scored three goals.
