Everton are eyeing a summer swoop for Arsenal ace Calum Chambers if their move for Burnley’s Michael Keane fails , according to a report.
A Daily Mail report claims the Gunners are willing to let the 22-year-old defender leave North London permanently this summer, although they would prefer it to be a temporary move.
It is said £15million could be enough to prise Chambers away from the Emirates, where he only has two years remaining on his current contract.
The report states that Newcastle, Bournemouth and German outfit RB Leipzig are also lining up moves for the three-time England international.
The Toffees are still keen on Keane, but Burnley manager Sean Dyche will not let him leave for a minimal fee, despite the fact he only has one year left on his deal at the club.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman is determined not to pay an outrageous sum for Keane, and if they cannot come to an agreement over his transfer, they will pursue a permanent deal for Chambers.
The 22-year-old spent the 2016-17 campaign on loan at Middlesbrough, were he made 26 appearances in all competitions.
Football Insider verdict
If Everton are not willing to break the bank for Keane, Chambers is a good, affordable option. At £15million he is a relative bargain for someone who has proven himself in the Premier League over the course of several seasons. He is also able to play at centre-back and at right-back, providing Koeman with some flexibility. Although he is not quite of the same quality as Keane, he would improve the Toffees squad if they can win the race to sign him.
