Everton are planning to "sacrifice" Amadou Onana this summer in a bid to keep Jarrad Branthwaite at the club, sources have told Football Insider.

Bayern Munich are extremely interested in a potential deal for Onana, 22, this summer as they plot signings in the defensive midfield area.

Everton are aware they will need to sell players this summer in a bid to avoid breaching Premier League financial rules again.

Sources told Football Insider earlier this month (3 May) that Everton are trying to persuade Branthwaite to stay for one more season.

It is believed crunch talks will be held between the player’s camp and the Merseysiders at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

Man United have made the Englishman their top defensive target ahead of the summer transfer window.

Branthwaite returned from a loan at PSV Eindhoven last season to become a key man for Everton and has been rewarded for his impressive displays with an England call-up.

He has made 40 starts across all competitions this term and signed a new four-year contract at Goodison Park in October 2023.

Meanwhile, Onana has made 36 appearances across all competitions for Sean Dyche’s side this term – starting in 29 of those outings.

Everton sit 15th in the Premier League and have secured safety despite a nine-point deduction this term.
