Everton player ratings v Liverpool: 28-year-old was a 4/10 disgrace

Everton drew 1-1 with Liverpool at Anfield in the first Merseyside derby of the Premier League season.
It was a frustrating afternoon for the Toffees as Liverpool dominated possession and chances, but a late penalty from captain Wayne Rooney was enough to earn them a draw.
Liverpool took the lead on 42 minutes through a spectacular effort from Mohamed Salah. The 25-year-old cut inside onto his left foot on curled the ball past Jordan Pickford into the top corner.
Sadio Mane missed a great chance to make it 2-0 just before half-time as Liverpool broke away at pace, but dragged his effort wide and should have done better or passed the ball.
Liverpool continued to dominate after half-time with Mane going close. Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made a good save after a dangerous ball into the box by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The home side looked very comfortable but were made to pay for missing their chances when Everton were awarded a penalty after a clumsy challenge by Dejan Lovren on Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Rooney showed great composure by firing the ball straight down the middle of the goal, beating goalkeeper Simon Mignolet who dived to his left.

Goalkeeper and defenders
Jordan Pickford (Goalkeeper) - 6: Could do absolutely nothing about the finish by Mohamed Salah, no goalkeeper in the world could have saved that. Made a couple of decent saves, including a very brave one after a good ball in by Oxlade-Chamberlain. His distribution was very good.
Jonjoe Kenny (Right-back) - 7: A very solid defensive performance and what was always going to be a difficult afternoon for the Toffees defence. Got forward a few times and provided a couple of decent balls into the box.
Mason Holgate (Centre-back) - 6: A good performance. Made a couple of key tackles and interceptions.
Ashley Williams (Centre-back) - 5: Was beaten far too easily by Mane in the first half. An improved second-half display, made a few key challenges late on.
Cuco Martina (Left-back)- 4: Gave the Liverpool attackers too many space at times and struggled to cope with the pace of Mane and Salah.

Midfielders
Wayne Rooney (Right Midfield) - 6: Really struggled on the right of midfield in the first half, looked a lot more comfortable when playing in a more central and attacking role after the break. Great pass to Calvert-Lewin who won the penalty. Showed great composure from the spot to get his side back into the game.
Idrissa Gueye (Centre-Midfielder) - 7: Found it difficult at times but you cannot fault his effort and commitment. Great work rate, always trying to make something happen. Was booked in the second half.
Tom Davies (Left Midfield) - 4: An afternoon to forget for the young man as Liverpool dominated the midfield. Gave the ball away far too often and was replaced at half-time by Aaron Lennon.

Forwards
Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Left-wing) - 6: Worked hard but didn't really get any chances as Liverpool dominated possession in midfield and attack. Did very well to win the penalty that got Everton back into the game.
Gylfi Sigurdsson (Right-wing) - 6: A mixed performance. Looked a bit lost at times. Almost gave a penalty away for a handball late on and could have been sent off for a poor challenge.
Oumar Niasse (Striker) - 5: Struggled to make any impact in a frustrating first half, was replaced at half-time.

Substitutes
Morgan Schneiderlin (Midfielder on for Oumar Niasse at half-time) - 6: A decent performance after being brought on at the break, put a few solid tackles in but was also booked.
Aaron Lennon (Midfielder on for Tom Davies at half-time) - 6: Was brought on at half-time to allow Rooney to move into a more central position. Didn't make a huge impact going forward but looked okay defensively.
Phil Jagielka (Defender on for Wayne Rooney, 83 minutes) - 6: Was brought on for Rooney with seven minutes to go and helped keep the Liverpool attack at bay. A sensible decision by Sam Allardyce.
