Everton’s squad believe that former Watford manager Marco Silva will be appointed as the next Goodison Park boss, according to a report.
The Mirror claimed in their live transfer blog on Sunday [10:59pm] that the Toffees players believe that Sam Allardyce will be leaving the club and replaced with Portuguese manager Silva, however West Ham are also interested as the London club look for a successor to David Moyes.
It is understood that the European boss is Everton’s number one target, but they could face a tug-of-war with the Hammers to appoint him.
Football Insider verdict
Farhad Moshiri has some big decisions to make in the coming weeks. It looks as though Allardyce will definitely be replaced in charge after the season ended with Everton fans calling on the former England manager to be sacked. The Toffees got what they expected with Big Sam. His football was never going to be pretty and he still managed to achieve an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League, despite the club looking as though it was facing a relegation battle when he took charge. At the end of the day, what could Everton have done better? Finish seventh? One place difference in the league should not lead to a manager being sacked but when the fans are so against him, Moshiri will have little choice. The main issue in the boardroom will now be the conflicting visions of Moshiri and Bill Kenwright. The duo clashed when they looked to replace Ronald Koeman which led to a shambolic manager search. Will Moshiri take charge this time? Or will he sack Kenwright full stop? It’s going to be an interesting few weeks at Goodison Park.
