Everton tipped to seal multiple January signings after 'huge' £8m development - pundit
Everton could land multiple signings in January after the sale of James Rodriguez.
So says ex-England shot-stopper Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Everton confirmed Rodriguez’ exit on 22 September.
The 30-year-old Colombian playmaker joins Qatari side Al-Rayyan for an undisclosed fee a little over 12 months after he first arrived at Goodison.
This site revealed on 12 September that the Toffees failed to offload him over the summer because of his enormous £250,000-a-week wages.
Rodriguez had eight months remaining on his Everton deal before his departure, meaning the club has saved £8million in wages.
Manager Rafael Benitez voiced his frustrations at financial fair play constraints during the summer window.

But Robinson suggests that the Rodriguez money could now be used to seal a flurry of mid-season additions.
“He is a player who was commanding huge wages,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.
“Rodriguez hasn’t been anywhere near good enough. He had maybe two or three good games, but that’s it.
“I don’t think he was suited to the Premier League at all. So to be able to get a player like that off the wage bill will be a big bonus for Everton.
“That will give the manager the chance to use that money in the January window. We know he didn’t do everything he wanted to over the summer.
“Maybe he can get his wish in January. That might be in terms of transfer fees or wages for free transfers or loan deals.“
