Everton tipped to sign at least two new players after source's £9m reveal - pundit
The sale of Bernard gives Everton the scope to sign at least two new players in January, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds United striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest on the Brazilian.
Football Insider revealed that Bernard ended up joining United Arab Emirates outfit Sharjah for just £1m this summer.
The Toffees sold him for £8m less than the £9m fee they nearly agreed with UAE side Al-Nasr earlier in the year but a source has updated to tell Football Insider that he was on big wages at Goodison and they have made a significant saving in that regard.
Whelan insists Everton just wanted to get Bernard out of the club to allow them to complete business in January.
“He will have come into Everton with big aspirations,” Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs.

“He is a very talented player. But he’s not had the career he will have expected at Everton.
“I imagine he will have also been on big wages and Everton are trying to lower their wage bill.
“They want to clear out the deadwood. £1million is not ideal, they probably could have got more.
“Right now, with the pandemic and the wages they were paying him, it just makes total sense to get rid of him.
“That frees up the chance to probably get two players in. They didn’t do a lot in the summer and the players they have signed have totally worked.
“The scope is there to improve again in January now those wages are gone.”
