Everton told to agree Ange Postecoglou deal now after two approaches - pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed Everton could lure Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou to Goodison Park if they are willing to make a change mid-season.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Toffees need “a different way to go” after recent struggles under Frank Lampard.

However, Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (15 November) that the Merseysiders have decided to stand by Lampard and give him time to turn their season around after crunch talks following their 3-0 away loss at Bournemouth.

Postecoglou has previously dismissed reports linking him with vacancies at Brighton and Wolves as he chases back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles at Celtic.

According to journalist Alan Nixon (13 November), the Australian is “top of the wishlist” at Everton should they sack current incumbent Lampard.

Everton have lost seven of their 15 Premier League outings this term – including three defeats in their last five games.

When asked if the Goodison Park hot seat would pique Postecoglou’s interest, Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Absolutely. Everton are historically a big club.

“They’ve got great history behind them, a great fanbase, and it’s a really great club to be at – I loved my time there as a kid.

“I think they need a different way to go. They’ve brought in some top players, some exciting attacking players – and it just doesn’t seem to be working.

“I think Postecoglou would be looking at that and thinking he could get a lot more out of that squad than Lampard is.

“This is a perfect time right now for the board to make a change.

“There’s a window of opportunity to get Postecoglou in. Whether they take it, time will tell.”
