Everton told to complete seven new signings as James Tarkowski twist revealed - pundit

Frank Lampard will need seven or eight new signings this summer if Everton are to push up the Premier League table in the 2022-23 season, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Lampard needs to improve his starting XI all across the pitch.

An Everton source told Football Insider on Thursday (16 June) that they have already completed their first signing in James Tarkowski but an announcement has been delayed until the end of the month when his Burnley contract ends.

Owner Farhad Moshiri apologised, via a statement on the club website last week (8 June), for the 2021-22 campaign and insisted their recruitment processes had been overhauled.

“They need to make a lot of signings,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Richardson wants out and I’d let him go, you don’t want players who don’t want to be there.

“They’ve got so many positions where they need to improve. Calvert-Lewin was poor last season so I’d bring in another striker because he had his injury problems.

“They’ve got all areas that they need to improve. At right-back, Seamus Coleman is getting on a bit now at left-back [Vitalii] Mykolenko is decent but they need better.

“Lampard will be scratching his head thinking ‘I need seven or eight players here to try and push up the table’.”

Everton finished the 2021-22 campaign in 16th, avoiding relegation by just four points.

Lampard replaced Rafa Benitez at the end of January and brought in Dele Alli on transfer deadline day.

In other news, Everton must now take decisive action after a ‘damaging’ Yerry Mina confession.
