Everton told to sign £17.5m Richarlison replacement 'now' - Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Everton to “snap Burnley’s hands off” to sign Maxwel Cornet this summer.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, warned the Toffees that they need to replace Richarlison’s goals after Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s “poor” form in front of goal last term.

According to the Daily Mail (25 July), Cornet, 25, is being chased by a number of clubs in England following Burnley’s relegation – including Everton, Nottingham Forest, and Fulham.

The report claims the Clarets want any interested club to pay the Ivory Coast international’s £17.5million release clause in full.

Everton have already completed the signing of two Burnley stars this summer – with Dwight McNeil and James Tarkowski both making the move to the Goodison Park club.

Cornet, who is under contract at Turf Moor until 2026, scored nine goals in 26 outings last term.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “For that sort of money [£17.5million] they should be snapping Burnley’s hands off.

“They’re so light. The season is starting in a week’s time. They need to get players in.

“Calvert-Lewin had his injury problems last year, but he didn’t look very good. That’s why no one wants him.

“He was poor last season, so you can’t rely on just him. Richarlison kept them up with his goals and his fight towards the end – so they need a replacement for him.

“£17.5m for Cornet – they should get that one done now.

“Everton have to be careful, because they were dragged out of the relegation fight last season – but they need to spend this money wisely.”
