Kieran Maguire 'amazed' as Farhad Moshiri could now pull Everton U-turn

Everton need only look at the “amazing” work done by Liverpool supporter groups to see that fan pressure is an effective tool against unpopular owners.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the recent protests against the Farhad Moshiri regime.

The Toffees have recorded financial losses of £372million over the last three years alone and only narrowly avoided relegation in 2021-22.

As relayed by the Liverpool ECHO, Everton supporter group the 27 Campaign staged a protest against the owners outside Goodison Park last Saturday (23 July).

The demonstration took place after Moshiri insisted that the club is not for sale, although he did claim he would welcome minority investment.

But Maguire claims that pressure from fans could force the British-Iranian businessman to rethink his stance on certain issues.

“I suspect that the Everton ownership will be anxious to have the fans onboard,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“As we saw at the end of last season, having passionate fans helps the players. Protests are a diversion from what’s happening on the pitch, although that doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be taking place.

“If fans feel let down by the board, they need a vehicle through which they can express their dissent.

“We have seen, not too far away from Everton, the amazing efforts of Spirit of Shankly to act as a collective and cohesive voice. That has made progress.

“They have managed to reverse some of the decisions made by FSG that maybe were not in fans’ best interests. Everton could do the same.
