Sources: Everton and Aston Villa make up minds on Anwar El Ghazi future

Everton will let Anwar El Ghazi go at the end of the season and Aston Villa will attempt to secure a permanent transfer, Football Insider understands.

The Dutch winger, 26, has struggled to make an impression at Goodison Park since joining in the January window on loan.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Everton have no plans to sign El Ghazi permanently and will let him go when his loan expires.

Villa will look to cash in during the summer and believe it will be easier at that point to agree a transfer.

Manager Steven Gerrard does not see El Ghazi as part of his plans for next season.

He wants a complete overhaul of the playing squad in the summer as he look to establish Villa as a top-six Premier League club.

The two-times Holland international was a key player under Dean Smith last season, when he ended the campaign in a blaze of goals.

El Ghazi netted four times in the last seven Premier League matches to finish 2020-21 with an impressive 11 goals from 31 games in all competitions.

He began this season in the starting XI and responded with a goal in the 2-0 win over Newcastle United.

But he was pushed out to the fringes before securing a move to Everton in January when Rafael Benitez was the manager.

His successor Frank Lampard has barely used El Ghazi since he took over.

The Dutchman has made just two substitute appearances for Everton since his loan and was an unused sub was again for Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham.
