Dan Friedkin faces Everton budget concern after promises made to David Moyes

David Moyes will have had promises from The Friedkin Group over summer transfers, but it may not be the full story on Merseyside.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Toffees' plans have hit a speed bump following the result of their legal battle with Burnley.

The Merseyside outfit will have to pay £40million in compensation to the Clarets after it was claimed that Everton's breach of PSR caused their rivals to be relegated in 2022.

Understandably, the Toffees are set to appeal the decision, but the big financial blow could have impacts behind the scenes, more than the manager is letting on.

Moyes has already spoken on the subject, revealing that those on Merseyside have known of the legal battle's conclusion since April, and hoping that there are no serious affects during the summer.

It is widely known that Everton want to re-sign Jack Grealish from Manchester City, permanently if possible, but these types of plans could be put on the backburner thanks to the latest update.

Everton transfer impact not 'impossible', says Stefan Borson

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson couldn't rule out an impact to the club's transfer budget, but admitted that it is less than likely over the coming months.

"They have known about it since April. That's the first thing. Certainly, anything that you read since April will have had that factored in," he said.

"David Moyes said exactly that, that he'd known since April and that he'd been assured it won't have any impact.

"Ultimately it's a question for The Friedkin Group. Did they budget for this? Was this already factored into the budget, that they expected to give to the club for this summer?

"Obviously we don't know. I think you could look at it two ways. I don't think it's impossible that it's going to impact the budget a little bit."

How likely are Everton to be in their appeal?

It is no surprise to see that the Toffees are set to appeal the awarding of £40m to Burnley, given the on and off-pitch ramifications of such a loss.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson revealed that, in reading into the situation more, he has become increasingly confident of a successful appeal.

That will be music to the supporters' ears, especially, who have been through so much turmoil under Farhad Moshiri, and are once again facing the impacts of his actions, just years later.

The finance expert has concluded that the decision is likely to be a flip of a coin, 50-50, and the more optimistic of fans will be delighted with those chances.
