David Moyes benchwarmer could make Everton ‘a lot of money’ if exit agreed - ex-EFC employee
Everton could rake in a significant transfer fee for a player currently out of David Moyes' starting XI plans.
That is according to experienced former Tottenham, Everton and Aston Villa scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
The Toffees' squad is one of the lightest in the Premier League, with multiple positions only having one natural option.
That fact has seen Moyes already revert to playing members of his squad out of position, with Jarrad Branthwaite featuring at left-back over the weekend.
Another who has often been deployed away from their best role is Irishman Jake O'Brien.
Primarily a centre-back, O'Brien has often played at right-back, but has found his minutes this season few and far between, putting his future in doubt.
Jake O’Brien tipped to make Everton ‘a lot of money’ if exit is agreed
O'Brien's future has been questioned over the last few months, with the possibility of a January exit still up in the air.
The Irishman has had just three appearances in the Premier League this season, all of which have been as a substitute - far cry from his standing in the squad last campaign.
His total minutes equate to just 28 so far. O'Brien is unlikely to be happy with his situation at Everton.
And a sale could be a lucrative outcome for the Merseyside outfit in the upcoming transfer windows.
"Ever since he got in the side, I thought, this kid's an Everton player,' King told Football Insider.
"And that was always the way, 15, 16 years ago, when I was working there with David Moyes and them. You're always under the perception of, is he an Everton player?
"And when I look at Jake O'Brien, I think he's an Everton player. If he did leave, it would make the club a lot of money."
What is the latest on O'Brien's future?
King had previously told Football Insider a £26million move to Crystal Palace had been agreed for O'Brien in the summer.
However, it would collapse late in the window.
Former Manchester United Chief Scout, Mick Brown, told Football Insider on 30 September that Everton would be willing to listen to offers in January.
So, it seems the Blues could be in line for a significant package for the 25-year-old defender.
Everton, though, will want to avoid their summer mistakes, and they will likely need to bring someone in to replace the Irishman first.
