Everton tipped to smash club record with James Garner sale
James Garner will become Everton's record sale when he does eventually leave the club.
That is the opinion of former senior Everton scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
The 25-year-old is already on the radars of several big European sides after a brilliant season for the Toffees.
Garner signed fresh terms with Everton in January and is under contract until 2030, but that will not stop a sizable bid eventually taking him if he continues to perform.
Romelu Lukaku is currently the Toffees' record sale after he joined Manchester United in 2017 for an initial £75million with £15m in potential add-ons.
The market has grown even more expensive in the years since, and Everton will be determined to extract the most that they possibly can out of any sale.
Everton transfer expert suggests Elliot Anderson price tag
While attackers have always featured among the most expensive signings in every window, midfielders appear to have taken that title of late.
Elliot Anderson's £116m move to Manchester City has broken their transfer record, and has made the 23-year-old the most expensive Englishman ever.
This summer alone, Sandro Tonali has also moved for £100m, Mateus Fernandes for £85m, with the futures of the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Ayyoub Bouaddi still to be determined.
Though Garner appears unlikely to move on this summer, he would undoubtedly fall into the same category.
"At some stage he's going to move on, I would imagine, if they don't win anything," King told Football Insider. "He'll be wanting to go to a club who are in the running for stuff, certainly playing in Europe, because that's the only way he's going to enhance his position to get back in the England squad.
"Again, you see what Anderson went for. You wouldn't expect him to go for much less, would you?"
Garner committed to Everton
Garner's decision to sign a new contract at Everton in January was a huge vote of confidence.
The midfielder was due to be out of contract next summer and would have potentially secured a big-money move.
"I've seen the progress we've made recently. Now I want to be part of that progress and get us back to where the club deserves to be," Garner said after signing.
"I feel like I'm now a part of the club, and I'm hoping to be a part of it for a long time."
