Ex-Everton scout reveals why Jarrad Branthwaite is a transformative player
David Moyes should not mess with his recent experiment at Everton ahead of facing Chelsea.
That is according to experienced former Tottenham, Everton and Aston Villa scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
Everton are just one of three Premier League sides that are still unbeaten in the league.
The Blues will be looking to push for those European places, and it has been so far, so good for Moyes.
However, his squad is not in the best of shape, clearly shown by the Toffees' manager having to force Jarrad Branthwaite out to left-back against Hull City.
It was a forced experiment for Moyes amid injury to his only natural left-back, Vitalii Mykolenko, but one he has now been urged to continue.
Jarrad Branthwaite backed to continue at left-back after injury comeback
Branthwaite has endured a frustrating spell with injuries, but he is beginning to show Everton fans exactly what he can offer again
Over the weekend, he proved he has added another string to his bow, producing a solid display out-of-position.
That versatility will serve him well, and it is a role he has been backed to remain in.
"It worked out quite good for him. And as long as [Mykolenko's] out, and the team is still getting results, and Everton are getting results," King told Football Insider.
"They've got a big game coming up the weekend. But the boy Branthwaite, after the disappointment of last season, being injured so much, has certainly come in. His performances have earned him a place in the England squad.
"And I think he can handle the left-back position. He's a left-sided centre-half. He's a useful player to have when he's fit, that's for sure.
"When he got into the team originally, he was a breath of fresh air. Young player, defender, big, strong, looked the part. Then he went through this injury period, which was not good for him.
"But he's come back, and he's starting to look a player again. And I think he'll be a big plus for Everton, whether he plays a left-back or centre-half. So I would keep him in that position."
What is the latest on Vitalii Mykolenko's fitness?
There is still no update on Mykolenko's fitness following Everton's 2-2 draw against Hull City.
Moyes will be hoping he is back as soon as possible, but Branthwaite has alleviated the issue quite well so far.
Even if the Ukrainian is fit, Everton should not risk him by starting, instead allowing the Englishman to remain on the left of the back four.
