Amanda Staveley's chances of Everton takeover revealed, TFG to hand club over to 'right people'
Amanda Staveley only has a 15 per cent chance of becoming the next owner of Everton in the coming months.
That is according to former Toffees chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who still believes that the most likely source of a takeover is the USA.
Staveley has been heavily linked with a move to take charge of the Merseyside outfit now that The Friedkin Group are looking to sell.
However, Wyness believes that the former Newcastle investor will have her eyes on "other prizes" as well at the moment.
The 53-year-old has been linked with moves to buy into a whole host of different clubs in recent months, including West Ham United after their relegation from the Premier League.
Staveley has been away from football since she left Newcastle back in July 2024, but is clearly keen to scratch the itch and get back into the game.
TFG committed to selling Everton to the 'right people'
Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that The Friedkins are committed to ensuring they sell Everton to the "right people."
The Americans have been heavily criticised in recent months, but Wyness has no doubt that they will ensure the club falls into the correct hands when they agree a deal.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, he explained why that is unlikely to be Staveley, despite her previous experience in football.
"I would rate Amanda's chances at about 15 per cent. I don't think there's a great chance of her taking over at Everton," Wyness said.
"There are too many ifs and buts, and I think she may have her eyes on other prizes as well, but I just don't think it's the right thing that the Friedkins will be looking for.
"The Friedkins are going to be very conscious about who they hand over to. It won't just be price, although that will obviously be a very important factor for them, but I do believe that they're going to have to hand over to the right people.
"I put it at a very slim chance that Amanda will become the next custodian of Everton. I think it'll come from another group somewhere in America, and I think there'll be some discussions about how to take things forward properly, and really maximise the revenue at the stadium going forward."
Keith Wyness updates on Alisher Usmanov return
Wyness previously told Football Insider on Friday that former investor Alisher Usmanov shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a football club again amid links of a return to Everton.
The Russian-Uzbek businessman was a close ally of previous owner Farhad Moshiri, and Wyness feels he was largely to blame for the club's issues during Moshiri's tenure.
Usmanov is currently blocked from having business relations in the UK, but is reportedly pushing for those sanctions to be lifted.
However, Wyness believes that he should not given a chance to buy Everton under any circumstances, and would likely fail the Premier League's owners and directors test.
