Everton’s former owner Farhad Moshiri lost “hundreds of millions” after selling the club to The Friedkin Group (TFG).

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider it proved to be a “disastrous deal” for the Iranian businessman.

Moshiri sold Everton to TFG, which is spearhead by Dan Friedkin, in December 2024 after the club faced severe financial challenges.

The Toffees’ parent company, Roundhouse Capital Holdings, published its accounts for 2024-25 earlier this month, showing how much the deal was worth.

Moshiri received £25million upfront for the Everton takeover, while he is also due future payments worth £42.3m.

Why Everton deal could have been 'a lot worse' for Farhad Moshiri

Everton submitted their latest accounts for 2024-25 last month, showing their revenue increased from £187m in 2023-24 to £197m last season.

That figure is expected to improve this season following the Merseyside giants’ move from Goodison Park to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson discussed the deal Moshiri received for Everton following the sale to TFG.

“That's probably quite a good deal for him actually,” said Borson.

“He was over a barrel. If TFG hadn't bought it, it could have been very scary, so he's done well to get even that.

“He's lost hundreds of millions of pounds, him and whoever is backing him. It's been a disastrous deal for them. It might look quite good that he took £25m plus potentially an earn out of a bit more, but it's a disastrous deal.

“It just could have been a hell of a lot worse, so I actually think he's done okay. TFG could have really squeezed him very hard on that deal.”

How Everton have taken steps forward under Dan Friedkin

Everton have taken huge steps forward since Moshiri’s departure was confirmed in late 2024.

TFG brought David Moyes back to the club in January 2025, with the Scotsman improving the on-field results over the past 15 months.

The Toffees currently sit 10th in the Premier League table, but they are firmly in contention for a European spot this season.

The Merseysiders’ next game sees them travel to the London Stadium to take on relegation-threatened West Ham on Saturday (25 April).
