Jack Grealish responds when asked if he will ever wear a Man City shirt again

Jack Grealish has already been quizzed on his future as a Manchester City player ahead of next summer after returning on loan to Everton.

The 30-year-old winger had to wait until Deadline Day to seal move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, though it wasn't certain that a deal would materialise.

Aston Villa and Sunderland were both keen on signing the attacker, but David Moyes' side finally secured his signature on the final day of the window.

Before that, it appeared that Grealish was part of Enzo Maresca's plans, featuring against Arsenal in the Community Shield as well as Bournemouth.

However, when he was left out of the squad to face Crystal Palace, it was evident that an announcement was just hours away for the 2026-27 campaign.

Once he returns from his season-long loan, his contract at Man City will have expired, unless Maresca wants to bring him into the squad again.

Grealish has played just 24 minutes for the Toffees so far, coming on as a substitute during the thrilling 2-2 draw against Manchester United on Sunday, 6 September.

But supporters and the media are already keen to know what his future holds, quizzing him on what could come next after his loan on Merseyside.

"I don't know, honestly. I'll just have to wait and see what happens. I just want to be enjoying myself, and that's the main thing at the moment," he told Manchester Evening News.

It would certainly be a surprise to see him return as a Citizen, but as the 2025-26 campaign proved, anything can happen, such as a long-term injury.

Who else could leave Man City next summer?

Grealish is unlikely to be the only player looking at a permanent exit next summer, and he could be the first of multiple departures.

Bernardo Silva, John Stones and Rodri have already passed on the torch, while Rico Lewis, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Dias could be sacrificed.

Keith Wyness told Football Insider last month that Lewis would not be sold before the transfer window closed, but his future is still very much uncertain.

Nottingham Forest have been long-term admirers of the talented right-back, and given his limited minutes over the last few months, his exit wouldn't be a surprise.
