Michael Keane has sent a clear message to David Moyes that he should be offered a new Everton contract after his performance in the 3-0 victory over Chelsea.

While his performance will not get as much attention as the likes of Beto and Iliman Ndiaye, it was still an excellent display.

The defender was crucial to keeping a clean sheet against the Blues as they took one step closer to European qualification.

Keane is out of contract in the summer, and speculation has arisen that he could depart.

However, after the excellent Everton victory on Saturday, below, Football Insider has argued that he should now be offered a new deal.

Michael Keane’s performance vs Chelsea shows why new contract is needed

Keane has been colossal for Everton throughout the majority of this campaign.

The centre-back has been a mainstay in the starting XI throughout the season, especially when Jarrad Branthwaite was injured.

Keane has been a mainstay at Everton for years

In recent weeks, Keane had fallen out of the lineup, but returned for the defeat to Arsenal and retained his place for the Chelsea match.

Here, he was simply fantastic, winning every single one of his ground duels, performing nine clearances, and even having a 100 per cent dribble rate.

With his contract up in the summer, this display sent a clear message to Moyes that he should be getting a new deal.

Considering how dominant he was at the back as he kept out some of the best attackers in the world, there is no doubt this deal should be offered, with Keane continuing to prove himself to be a vital asset.

What are the chances Everton could qualify for European football?

Former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider that Everton could be demoted if they qualify for the same European competition as Roma this season.

However, with the Italian side on track to qualify for the Europa League, there is a chance that the Toffees could go one step further and reach the Champions League.

Opta on 22 March believes these odds are slim at 1.91 per cent. However, with Everton now only three points off fifth-placed Liverpool, it is not out of the question.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Moyes’ side can continue their good form until the end of the season and accomplish this unlikely goal.
