Everton should axe 28-year-old vs Tottenham as damning stats revealed
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall cannot start for Everton on Saturday for their away day against Tottenham Hotspur.
The 28-year-old has started in all four of the Toffees’ games so far this campaign, and has been a key performer in each match.
The midfielder even netted in their 2-0 victory against Crystal Palace in their opening match in the Premier League this season.
However, Dewsbury-Hall was arguably Everton’s worst player on the pitch when they lost to Spurs 1-0 at the end of the last campaign.
At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the midfielder was simply unable to find a way through Roberto De Zerbi’s system.
Therefore, David Moyes would be wise to drop him and look for other solutions for the line-up on Saturday.
How bad was Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall vs Spurs?
In the last meeting against Tottenham, few players performed well in the 1-0 defeat.
However, Dewsbury-Hall was easily one of the worst stars on the pitch, with little coming off for the midfielder.
According to Fotmob on 11 September, he created zero chances, had one shot which was blocked, completed 71 per cent of his passes, only completed one of four attempted crosses, failed to complete a single long ball from five attempted and only won three out of eight ground duels.
Given that De Zerbi clearly knows how to counter Dewsbury-Hall, Moyes would be wise to drop him.
If not, he risks coming away with nothing against a side who have looked particularly vulnerable so far this season.
What is Everton’s record vs Tottenham?
Everton’s recent record against Tottenham is abysmal.
The Toffees have only won one of their past 11 meetings against Spurs in the Premier League, with this coming in January 2025.
Everton have also only won one game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since the North London club moved into their new ground, with this coming in September 2020.
Since then, the Merseyside club has lost its last five visits to the ground, scoring one goal in this time and conceding 14 times.
However, it remains to be seen if the Toffees can break this curse on the weekend as they look to finally return to winning ways at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
