Liverpool supporters are seething on social media after a tackle made by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford during their 2-1 defeat away at West Ham on Saturday.

The Toffees slipped to a 2-1 defeat in stoppage time in West London, while their city rivals made their home comforts count as they beat Crystal Palace 3-1 at Anfield.

David Moyes' side had been within touching distance of the Reds ahead of their recent derby clash, but they are now 11 points adrift of them, and have seen their European hopes take another major hit.

Back-to-back defeats in the Premier League have prompted frustration in the Everton camp, especially after they failed to create quality chances against West Ham.

Pickford couldn't save Everton from their defeat, and there are calls on social media for him to now face a sanction due to footage that is circulating online.

West Ham fans call for Jordan Pickford ban

Pickford caught the eye when trying to make a close-range stop from Hammers striker Valentin Castellanos during his team's defeat on Saturday, and he collided with the frontman after lunging towards him.

The England international's follow-through after diving forward carried him into his opponent, and a close-up view from inside the goal appears to show him planting his studs into Castellanos' ankle.

West Ham fans have been sharing the footage on X and questioning whether the gloveman could be retrospectively banned by the FA for the challenge, and Liverpool supporters have also weighed in with their verdict.

The Reds' faithful have taken to X to show their displeasure towards Pickford yet again, while many have likened it to an incident that saw Virgil van Dijk sustain a serious injury back in 2020.

One Liverpool supporter suggested that Pickford's antics go unnoticed "until he does it to your team," while another outlined that he "has a history" of making challenges of that ilk.

Another fan even went as far as to say that the 32-year-old is "protected" because he is England's goalkeeper, while it was also pointed out that he has been "doing it for years."

  • @A_Jim_Cameron: "He needs to be stopped but he's got England immunity."
  • @Danny98Official: "Same as what he did to Virgil years ago."
  • @Noah_tam: "Pickford constantly trying to break people's legs is weird isn't it."

Pickford moment went totally unnoticed in Everton defeat

Everton's late penalty shout that wasn't given has dominated discussions in the aftermath of the game, with Pickford's tackle largely going unnoticed by comparison.

The incident doesn't look to be anything serious on the face of it, but is undoubtedly heightened by the close-up angle that is being shared.

The shot-stopper appears to have his head turned away from Castellanos as he lunged forward to try and block the ball, but there could still be a conversation to be had as to whether it was a reckless tackle.

Referee Stuart Attwell failed to pick up in the incident during the game, while VAR also didn't call for a review while the play was ongoing.

It remains to be seen whether there is any chance of Pickford being banned retrospectively in the coming days, but it is clear that he has angered fans across the league once again.
