Sources: David Moyes' updated stance on accepting Everton contract offer

Everton manager David Moyes does not have any “doubts” about his desire to continue to lead the team forward long-term, sources have told Football Insider. 

The 63-year-old is understood to be “frustrated” with the way the end of the transfer window played out, but it has not affected how he sees his future.

The Scot is out of contract on Merseyside at the end of the season, but it is understood that Everton are planning to engage in talks over his future before the new year.

There are no immediate discussions in the offing, but sources say that the club hierarchy will be “more than happy” to keep the veteran boss on if the team perform in the first half of the season. 

Everton are still unbeaten after the opening four Premier League games, despite their lack of depth in certain areas of the squad. 

Moyes remains committed to the cause at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and has no intention of stepping away from his role, despite recent suggestions that he could resign.

Everton moved to secure seven new signings in the summer window, including triggering a permanent deal for Tyrique George, and re-signing Jack Grealish on loan again.

However, the striker and full-back situations are still creating issues for Moyes, and both represent genuine gaps in the squad that need to be filled sooner rather than later. 

Many supporters were left frustrated with the business that the club conducted in the summer, and it is clear that Moyes is in no doubt that some of the mistakes made cannot be repeated. 

Instead, he is hoping to receive greater backing from the club hierarchy this winter, to ensure that he has all the tools he needs to try and make a push towards the European places. 

However, with a reluctance to use the free agent market between now and then, the boss will have to make do with the squad that he currently has in place. 

Everton’s chances of signing Mauro Icardi revealed

Football Insider revealed on Monday that Everton are “unlikely” to genuinely consider making a move to sign Mauro Icardi as a free agent in the coming weeks. 

The Toffees are financially capable of securing the 33-year-old’s signature, but are concerned about him not being up to speed with the rest of their squad in terms of fitness. 

Moyes does not want to use the free agent unless it is an absolute last resort, and he is not at that stage just yet. 

Icardi also has interest from clubs in Italy, after a season that saw him score 16 goals in all competitions for Galatasaray last time out.
