Sources: Monaco plan to accept new Folarin Balogun offer after Everton twist
Folarin Balogun could join a new club within days despite turning down an offer from Everton, sources have told Football Insider.
The 25-year-old had a medical at Finch Farm on transfer deadline day before late complications and ongoing doubts led him to walk out on the Toffees at the 11th hour.
His decision has left Everton with just one registered striker on the books, and placed Monaco in a tricky financial situation as they needed to sell to balance the books.
However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Balogun could still be allowed to leave Monaco with windows open elsewhere.
The Saudi Pro League transfer window is open until 6 October, leaving plenty of time for a deal to be agreed should they feel there is a deal to be done with Monaco.
Any future move for Balogun will no doubt leave Everton wondering what could have been, with questions still being asked about their disappointing summer window.
Could Folarin Balogun still join a new club?
Football Insider revealed on 4 Septmeber that Balogun was unhappy with Everton during the process of joining on deadline day, which ultimately saw him walk out on the deal.
However, he was open to the idea of leaving Monaco in the final stages of the window, and while another European move may now be off the table, he could explore his options.
Saudi Pro League clubs are believed to have been keeping tabs on Monaco's situation as they are under pressure to sell, and Everton could see Balogun snatched away.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Everton thought they were getting Folarin Balogun, a was agreed between them and Monaco.
"He had his medical at Finch Farm as well but then Everton weren't too happy with the medical and tried to renegotiate the deal.
"Everton had signed it off, Monaco had signed it off, but then Balogun decided he didn't want to proceed with the move.
"It leaves Monaco in a bit of a sticky position because they might still have to sell some players to another different country where their window is still open.
"They need to bring in some of that money for UEFA regulations otherwise they could find themselves in a bit of a bother this season as well.
"So clubs in Saudi Arabia, for example, where the window is still open, could look at that situation and maybe look to tempt Balogun away from Monaco after all."
Why did Everton miss out on signing Balogun?
Balogun's decision to walk out on Everton following medical checks and deals agreed between the clubs on deadline day game as a significant blow to David Moyes' side.
The Toffees were working long into the night to sign the USA international, with a deal sheet submitted to the Premier League, but it was undone by their own actions.
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider on 3 September that the club attempted to use Balogun's medical issues to slash his price tag and wages.
Following an initial medical, Everton pulled the plug on the deal and went back to the negotiating table, leaving the striker with his future still up in the air.
Despite a new deal having been agreed, Balogun did not agree with the way Everton went about the deal, and those doubts eventually saw him walk out on the deal.
