Stefan Borson blasts 'moaners' after Everton agree 'quality' deal for 'very good offer'

Everton supporters should have no concerns over their club's new sponsorship with CMC Markets ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that any gambling complications are being blown out of proportion.

The Toffees announced CMC Markets as the club's new Main Partner in a multi-year deal on Wednesday, 1 July, becoming their front-of-shirt sponsor ahead of the upcoming season.

David Moyes' side were forced to find a new deal after Stake due to new Premier League rules prohibiting gambling sponsors on the front of shirts.

Eager supporters have learned that CMC Markets offers "spread betting," which, understandably, has raised some red flags at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Stake, on the other hand, have moved to the Toffees' sleeve sponsor, allowing for the new deal to be struck, understood to be rather valuable.

Everton fans' red flags nothing to worry about

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson poured cold water over any suggestions that the deal with CMC Markets could cause issues down the line.

"It's not an issue, it's permitted. CMC are a financial spread betting firm, very successful. It just depends what you believe spread betting is," he said.

"Whether you believe spread betting is gambling or whether you believe it's investing, it's a derivative product of investing in shares.

"I don't know why football fans care, to be honest. The club have taken the view that they're taking that money and I think they've done the right thing.

"They'll just have to front off the small number of fans who are bothered about it. I would imagine that it's a very, very small minority that are complaining.

"You can't please everybody all the time. They've got a good financial offer. They very much need somebody on that front of the shirt just because of the importance of it, especially for teams like Everton.

"They're not in a position where they can be choosy. CMC are a high-quality British company. I'm not sure what more people want. There'll always be somebody moaning.

"You've got to have to look through that and do what's best for the club. This looks like a very good deal with a very good quality brand."

How much could Everton earn from CMC Markets deal?

Supporters are already excited for the season ahead, and this new sponsorship will only add to the anticipation.

According to The Times' journalist Paul Joyce, the CMC partnership with Stake moving to the sleeve, could see the Toffees earn up to £25m-a-year.

Fans will certainly be hoping that these extra funds can go straight back into the current squad, having already signed Hayden Hackney on a £25m deal.

He is the Toffees' only arrival of the summer, though, so there is plenty of expectation lingering at the Hill Dickinson Stadium ahead of next season.
