Stefan Borson reveals 'most likely' Everton buyer in key takeover update

Published on:

The Friedkin Group (TFG) are highly likely to agree to an Everton takeover with another bidder from the United States.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that TFG need an investor with "deep pockets" to get a deal done.

After just 21 months in charge on Merseyside, TFG are already seeking an exit from the Premier League, clearly with full focus on Serie A giants Roma.

Supporters were already anxious when the American owners opened the doors to new investment following a rather disappointing summer transfer window.

With no minority investors coming aboard, that has quickly snowballed into a full sale, but it could be months until TFG make any progress.

Names, such as Amanda Staveley and Alisher Usmanov, have since come forward, but nothing concrete has yet emerged at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton's next owners 'will come from the US'

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson believes that the next owners will likely come from the US due to the sheer size of the club and project.

"The most likely scenario here is the bidder comes out of the US. That's where the sale process is being largely run from," he said.

"But that doesn't mean that a lot of the people who have looked at this before won't look again. This is now a much more stable platform than it was before. The stadium is built.

"There is a significant upside in the stadium facilities and the areas around the stadium for somebody that's got deep pockets and wants to invest in Liverpool.

"Now clearly, that's not an easy thing to execute; we're talking about a very considerable urban development around the ground.

"Likewise, a lot of potential bidders like the idea of having both a football club but also a prop co, a property company sort of alongside it in the way that a lot of other clubs have done it over the years.

"It helps fund everything and helps reduce risk because you're not just a football club; you're a football club and you're a property company that's happening to develop in one of the emerging areas of a major city.

"So you can understand why they might want to do that. And I think that's the sort of buyer that I'll end up with."

Could Alisher Usmanov really be interested?

Everton supporters will have been stunned when Alan Brazil revealed information he'd heard about Usmanov wanting back in on Merseyside.

A Farhad Moshiri ally, the Uzbek-born Russian billionaire is unlikely to be welcomed back with open arms, but Borson has not ruled it out completely.

Were his sanctions in the UK to be lifted, the finance expert doesn't see a reason why Usmanov wouldn't register an interest, but it's far from the most likely outcome.

TFG will likely be waiting a long time for a sale, given that many believe the current owners want £1billion to sell, but it will sell eventually.
