Bournemouth 'doing everything they can' to stop Marcus Tavernier joining Everton

Bournemouth are "confident" that they can keep hold of winger Marcus Tavernier amid interest from Everton, sources have told Football Insider.

The Cherries are desperate to avoid a repeat of last summer, when they lost several of their key players to clubs across Europe.

Everton are strong admirers of Tavernier, but Bournemouth are keen to avoid giving them any "encouragement" to suggest that they may secure his signature.

The South Coast outfit are currently doing "everything they can" to keep hold of their club captain, and are extremely reluctant to sell.

They are hoping to provide Marco Rose with a strong squad to help him acclimatise to the Premier League in his first season in charge.

Everton's interest in Tavernier is expected to be knocked back at every possible opportunity, with the Toffees set to be forced to look elsewhere.

Who are Everton's other winger targets?

The wide areas have emerged as a top priority for Everton to strengthen in the final weeks of the summer window, but they will have to turn their attention away from Tavernier.

David Moyes is desperate to add further quality on the flanks, and the Merseysiders have their eyes on several late targets.

They are on the verge of adding Brennan Johnson to their group in a swap deal for Dwight McNeil, but also have other options on their radar.

Newcastle's Jacob Murphy is another name under consideration, while they remain keen to take any chance to potentially bring Jack Grealish back.

Tavernier is another name who has been on their radar, but Bournemouth have made it abundantly clear that he is not for sale under any circumstances.

David Moyes 'wasting' Everton star

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness told Football Insider earlier this week that Moyes is "wasting" midfielder Merlin Rohl's ability at the moment.

The Scot has used the German as an auxiliary right-back so far in pre-season, and while Rohl has done an impressive job, Wyness feels that his talent would be better used elsewhere.

He outlined that Rohl could be like a new version of Marouane Fellaini for Everton, such is his energy when it comes to getting forward and crashing the box.

The recruitment team are currently working to solve the right-back issues, and Everton are hoping that Rohl can return to his natural role soon.
