David Moyes will quit Everton after calamitous deadline day – verdict

David Moyes will surely consider walking away from Everton after a horrific deadline day at the club.

Going into the final weeks of the transfer window, the manager had made it very clear that he wanted new signings at the Toffees.

The Merseyside club was clearly light in several positions, and needed reinforcements if they were to fight for European qualification.

However, on deadline day, only two signings came through the door, with Jack Grealish completing a loan move, while Ainsley Maitland-Niles made a £3m switch.

More concerningly, five players departed, including star man Iliman Ndiaye and Beto.

With Everton’s squad far weaker than it was even two weeks ago, Moyes may now have had enough.

While it was impossible to predict that Folarin Balogun would walk away from a late switch to Everton on deadline day, the way that the club handled deadline day was simply incompetent.

How the Toffees thought it was a good idea to sell Beto before they brought in a replacement is baffling.

Now, Everton will have to manage at least until January with Thierno Barry as their only senior striker.

The loss of Ndiaye is also massive, with the winger clearly being the club’s most effective attacker in the 2025-26 campaign.

As a result, Everton’s squad is thinner than ever, and a few early injuries this campaign could easily see the club dragged into a relegation battle.

Therefore, after being let down by the owners, Moyes will surely just walk away. 

The Scotsman has been hung out to dry by The Friedkin Group, and the job he now faces could simply be too difficult a task.

Could Everton soon find themselves in a relegation battle?

Despite Everton’s terrible end to the transfer window, their starting XI is still extremely good on paper.

Players like Grealish, Barry and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall should be good enough to ensure that the club remains at least mid-table.

However, the concern is whether they can stay fit and available for the entire campaign, with no quality back-ups in sight.

If the Toffees are plunged into an injury crisis at any point, a relegation battle is a real possibility.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen where Everton will finish in the Premier League this season.
