Dominic Calvert-Lewin sends message after Vitalii Mykolenko agrees new Everton deal
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has issued a message of support to Everton left-back Vitalii Mykolenko after he penned a new deal with the club.
The Ukraine international has faced his fair share of criticism at times on Merseyside, but has continued to be a key player for David Moyes this term.
The 27-year-old started 33 games for the Toffees in the Premier League, as his form prevented promising young talent Adam Aznou from getting a look in.
Mykolenko's new three-year deal will keep him at the Hill Dickinson Stadium until 2029, and it has proved to be a popular move among Toffees players past and present.
Calvert-Lewin departed Everton upon the expiry of his contract last summer, but it is clear that he still keeps a close eye on developments at his former club.
Mykolenko is now set to line up for his fifth full season in blue in 2026-27, as Moyes looks to retain the core pieces that helped him push for Europe.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin speaks out after contract extension
Calvert-Lewin's move away from Everton has seen him revitalise his career this season, as he netted 15 goals for Leeds United in all competitions.
The frontman has quickly become the main man at Elland Road, and managed to rediscover the form that previously saw him gain regular international honours.
The 29-year-old has played a significant role in Everton's recent history, and spent three-and-a-half years sharing a dressing room with Mykolenko since his move from Dynamo Kyiv.
Mykolenko took to Instagram on Monday to express his gratitude after penning his new deal as he shared photos of him signing, alongside the caption: "Happy to sign a new deal, thanks everyone for the support."
Calvert-Lewin was one of many stars to reply to the defender's post, as he simply commented with two blue heart emojis, before adding: "Well deserved my friend."
Jake O'Brien also commented with: "Yes Mike!", while Michael Keane simply wrote: "Love it Mykooo."
What does Vitalii Mykolenko extension mean for Adam Aznou at Everton?
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider back in September that Aznou's arrival at Everton could "open the door" for Mykolenko to be moved on this summer.
However, that plan has since changed drastically, with the youngster making virtually no impact since joining from Bayern Munich, and Mykolenko now extending his stay.
Aznou has made just one competitive appearance for Moyes' men this term, which came in the FA Cup defeat to Sunderland back in January.
While he impressed in a cameo role in that encounter, it was not enough to earn him more opportunities, and the writing is surely now on the wall for him this summer.
Aznou needs games if he is to develop effectively as a player, and that will surely mean that Everton look to move him on this summer.
That could be in the form of a loan deal, or even a permanent exit, given how little he has been involved at first-team level.
