Everton supporters are already wishing that Vitalii Mykolenko had never put pen to paper on new terms at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Despite once being a fan-favourite on Merseyside, the Ukranian international's ability is now being massively questioned ahead of the new season.

A replacement at right-back has often been David Moyes' priority, but many believe that the opposite flank is also in dire need of reinforcements.

The distrust in Adam Aznou, 20, means that Mykolenko continues to star as Everton's first-choice left-back, and will do for the next three years

Having signed a new deal in June, the 27-year-old's contract expires in 2029, and supporters are seeing just how disastrous that is about to be.

While the Toffees put three past Newcastle United in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday, 12 August, not everything was so positive for Moyes' side.

In the 12th minute, a lofted cross into the box was simply controlled by Mykolenko, only for him to trip over his own feet and give Anthony Elanga a chance to score.

It was a frustrating mistake from the full-back, and not for the first time. Supporters are seeing an increasing number of errors from Mykolenko, and they're fed up.

While one supporter said that they'd rather "stare at the eclipse," another suggested that the player has been "blackmailing the owners" to get a new contract.

David Moyes finds new positives in Everton pre-season

It has not been all doom and gloom for those on Merseyside, even with a mixed set of results during the Toffees' pre-season preparations.

Hayden Hackney has slid straight into the lineup, replacing the ever-present Idrissa Gueye, while Thierno Barry has been in fine form up front.

Despite rumours about another potential loan move, Harrison Armstrong has been a creative force, grabbing two assists against Newcastle.

Even Tyrique George got on the scoresheet against the Magpies, which he failed to do during his loan spell at the Hill Dickinson last term.

There is plenty to be positive about ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, but Mykolenko continues to bring a dark cloud over the squad.
