'Everyone accepts Kane is leaving' Tottenham after Sky's talks update - pundit

Kevin Phillips has backed Tottenham to “push the boat out” to sign Lautaro Martinez or Dusan Vlahovic this week.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the European Golden Boot winner stressed the importance of signing a striker after claiming “pretty much everyone accepts Harry Kane is going to leave”.

According to Sky Sports (August 8th), Spurs are willing to pay around £60million to sign Martinez after talks with Inter Milan.

As revealed by Football Insider earlier today, the Argentina international has told his inner circle he wants to join Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

Spurs also reportedly hold an interest in Fiorentina striker Vlahovic but will only make a move if Kane leaves the club.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the latest, Phillips said:

“They have to step up their interest in the likes of Martinez and Vlahovic, it is as simple as that. The Tottenham fans will demand it.

“Pretty much everyone accepts that Harry Kane is going to leave so you need to bring a recognised striker in if you want to challenge for a European spot.

“Danny Ings has gone and he would have been a great option for them. There’s less than a week to the Man City game so that would be a big concern for me.

“Kane will not be playing so they really need to push the boat out to get someone in this week or next at the latest.

“They must have a backup plan because this Kane situation has been rumbling on for a while now.”
