Ex-Aston Villa star issues 'big' John McGinn transfer claim - 'from what I can gather...'

John McGinn is happy at Aston Villa and is not looking to leave the club this summer.

That’s according to former Villa hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about McGinn’s future.

The Daily Mail reported on 6 June that Spurs are lining up a move for the 27-year-old as they look to meet Antonio Conte’s transfer demands.

He is under contract at the club until 2025 after signing a new long-term deal in December 2020.

Despite interest from Tottenham, McAvennie insists McGinn is happy at Villa Park and is not actively looking to move.

“It would be a big blow if he left,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Is he going to go? A player starts playing well and you see them linked with every club.

“I haven’t seen too much about it myself. John is happy, from what I can gather.

“He is playing in the Premier League, he is playing every week and he’s doing very well.

“There aren’t many people who have gone down to England and done that. He has done brilliantly.

“He’s shining week in and week out even though Grealish isn’t there anymore, they were great together.”

McGinn started 35 of Aston Villa’s 38 Premier League games in the 2021-22 season as they finished 14th.

The Glasgow-born ace moved to the club from Hibs in the summer of 2018 and has made 147 appearances across all competitions.
