Ex-Fifa official: Newcastle United man in 'big trouble' as controversial Liverpool footage emerges
The Newcastle United staff member who threw an object at the Liverpool bench as his side lost 2-1 at Anfield on Wednesday (31 August) is in “big trouble”.
That is the view of ex-Fifa and Premier League referee Keith Hackett, speaking exclusively to Football Insider as he tipped a “substantial fine and quite a ban”.
BBC Sport reported on Thursday (1 September) that the FA have launched an investigation into the incident.
It occurred when Fabio Carvalho scored Liverpool’s 98th-minute winner.
There was a melee in front of the two dugouts after the final whistle but is unclear whether the two are related.
“The FA are going to look into it, they’ve announced,” Hackett said after analysing the footage with Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Whoever has thrown that has got a big problem. It looks as though they should be able to easily identify the culprit. Expect a big sanction.
“Who threw it? First of all, what’s his position? The laws of the game are clear, the actual manager of the team is responsible for the occupants of the technical area. That opens up a can of worms.
“The club will be very clear and identify that individual so that individual is dealt with.
“On the day, that could have led to the manager being red carded if the referee had seen it and not been able to identify who it was.
“Retrospectively, the individual has got a problem. I expect a substantial fine and quite a ban.
“Players and staff should set an example.”
