Ex-Fifa referee says if 'reckless' Mane should get extended ban as controversial Liverpool footage emerges
Keith Hackett has insisted Sadio Mane did not deserve to be sent off as Liverpool beat Arsenal 4-0 at Anfield this weekend.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee claimed Mane’s challenge on Takehiro Tomiyasu was “reckless” but did not cross the line into serious foul play.
The Liverpool attacker was not cautioned for the foul as things got heated between Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta on the touchline, as shown on Match of the Day.
Both managers were shown yellow cards and had to be kept apart by the fourth official and members of the coaching staff.
Mane was then showed a booking for a late challenge on Ben White just before the interval.
“The Tomiyasu challenge was what sparked the incident in the technical areas,” Hackett said after analysing the footage with Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Again I thought Michael Oliver got it right. I didn’t see that as a serious foul play challenge. I thought it was reckless.
“Yes, it’s a fine line but for me it was reckless. I think the match officials get it right.
“It’s good to praise a match official when they get it right.”
A straight red card would have seen Mane handed a three-game ban meaning he would miss the Premier League games with Southampton, Everton and Wolves.
Two yellow cards would have resulted in a one-game ban which would have meant Klopp would be without Mane for the trip to Southampton next weekend.
