Ex-manager makes 'huge' Leeds prediction for next season after news emerges from boardroom

Alex McLeish has heralded Marcelo Bielsa’s desire to keep working at Leeds United over the summer and tipped them to finish even higher next season.

The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, lauded the 65-year-old for “sacrificing” his personal life for the club.

Speaking to BBC West Yorkshire Sport, Leeds chief executive Angus Kinnear revealed Bielsa had snubbed returning to Argentina to remain in Yorkshire this summer.

Some of Bielsa’s coaching staff have returned back to their homeland during the off-season.

However, Kinnear revealed Bielsa wanted to work on transfers and oversee the training ground developments at Thorp Arch.

McLeish applauded the Argentine boss for dedicating himself fully to Leeds.

He also tipped the Whites’ board to give Bielsa the support needed to get the club higher up the Premier League table.

“He’s just made that sacrifice as a human,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“He’s dedicated himself to football and of course Leeds United. They must be proud and honoured to have the guy who’s taken them back to the Premier League.

“He’s got them playing a brand of football we all like. We’re all excited about them when we see Leeds.

“Given the support from the board, which he has had and will continue to get, it’s huge and you can only expect Leeds to be climbing to even higher levels in the Premier League.”

Leeds finished ninth during their first season back in the Premier League.

The Whites are still waiting on Bielsa to sign a new contract at Elland Road.

He has penned a one-year deal every summer since joining the club.
