Alex McLeish has claimed Manchester City could kick off a “new era” by signing Raphinha from Leeds United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland boss suggested the 24-year-old winger would be interesting several “top teams”.
Brazilian news outlet UOL Esporte claim Raphinha is one of several attackers wanted at City ahead of the summer window.
It is said Pep Guardiola wants to bolster his front line and has targeted the likes of Erling Haaland, Harry Kane and Joao Felix.
Raphinha has caught the eye with his performances at Elland Road.
McLeish suggested his “exciting” talents could help freshen up the City attack.
McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “City will be absolutely gutted at losing the Champions League final. You would have to think that they have to try and overcome that disappointment by getting back there next season.
“That’s the only trophy that’s eluded that fantastic team. I’m now beginning to see names like Sterling leaving. That tells you the point that they’re at, they’re actively looking to freshen things up again.
“When you read little snippets like Man City are willing to swap players like Sterling, you think: ‘Wait a minute’. I do think they could be thinking about a new era.
“Raphinha ghosts past defenders as if he’s not there and they don’t see him. So much of his positive play has been really exciting this year. Beating a man in a split second, causing havoc, creating an opportunity, scoring a goal.
“He’s got to be under the scrutiny of top teams like City.”
Raphinha has scored six goals and contributed nine assists for Leeds this season.
The Whites look set to sign Jack Harrison permanently from City this summer.
