Ex-manager tells Celtic to sign new Bergkamp as 'great' transfer plot reported
Alex McLeish has urged Celtic to launch a move to sign Aaron Mooy from Shanghai Port this summer.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Australian midfielder is exactly the type of player the Bhoys need.
Australian news outlet The World’s Game report Celtic could make an approach to bring the 30-year-old back from Chinese outfit Shanghai Port to the UK.
It is said the transfer fee would not be a hurdle, although his wage demands could be significant.
McLeish heralded the midfielder’s ability to retain possession and insisted Celtic should be pushing to try seal a deal.
McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I saw them linked with Aaron Mooy. Did he start at Man City?

“Then he went to Huddersfield and then Brighton. He’s a terrific player and the type of player Celtic should be going for.
“He’s got energy to burn. Any time I’ve seen the guy, he’s very difficult to dispossess on the ball.
“I’m not saying he’s a dribbler but when he gets the ball and just when you think you’re going to tackle him, he’s already given it to somebody else. One of his teammates gets it and normally it’s a good pass.
“He is a guy with great football nous.”
Sky Sports commentator Alan Smith compared Mooy to Dennis Bergkamp after his goal-scoring display against Bournemouth in 2019.
Mooy first arrived in the UK with Bolton Wanderers, while he also spent time at St Mirren before returning to Australia.
The 42-cap international joined Manchester City in 2016, Huddersfield Town in 2017 and Brighton in 2020.
He has a total of 96 Premier League appearances under his belt.
