Ex-manager: This may be real reason for Ndombele turnaround at Tottenham
Alex McLeish has heaped praise on Nuno Espirito Santo for helping Tanguy Ndombele rediscover his confidence at Tottenham.
The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 24-year-old had been “struggling” after a tumultuous two years in north London.
Ndombele made his first appearance of the season with a start against Rennes in the Europa League.
He has since started Spurs’ last two games, scoring in the League Cup win over Wolves.
Ndombele was out of favour at the start of the season and Nuno has called for “patience” after his return to the side.
McLeish applauded the Portuguese boss for keeping faith in the midfielder.

He suggested the manager’s backing brought the best out of Ndombele.
McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “He must have seen the talent was there. Maybe there was a lack of confidence.
“That’s perhaps what Nuno has worked on. There’s nothing like giving a player who’s got some quality but has been struggling a bit of confidence and having belief in him.
“Honestly, there must be anxiety that gets into players. As a human being, when you get under a bit of pressure, you know you’re a better player.
“You know you can show the reason you’re at a club like Tottenham but it’s just not happening at your head.
“That is important for a leader, one of the other leaders in the team as well and also the leader of the whole group, who is Nuno. He seems to have given the kid confidence.”
