Ex-striker claims Bruce is 'fuming' with Ashley after latest Newcastle comments
Frank McAvennie claims Steve Bruce will be fuming that Newcastle have failed to sign a first-team player so far this summer.
The former West Ham striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, is stunned the Magpies have not signed any new players.
Bruce told Sky Sports (7th August) he remains confident of adding to his squad before the transfer window closes.
Newcastle remain the only side in the Premier League who are yet to sign a first-team player this summer.
It is understood Bruce is working with a transfer budget of around £10million.
McAvennie insists Ashley needs to back his manager before the season starts.

“Ashley hasn’t spent any money because he thought he wouldn’t be the owner,” McAvennie told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.
“They are the only team to not make a signing this summer, that’s not good.
“The fact of the matter is, Ashley is the owner and he needs to put his hands in his pockets.
“Whatever is happening with the takeover, he’s the owner. He has that responsibility.
“Bruce must be fuming. He wants players in, every manager does.
“To be in August and to not have anyone new in, that’s really poor.”
Newcastle start their Premier League campaign with a home clash against West Ham.
The Magpies did the double over David Moyes’ side last year with the first win coming on the opening day of last season.
